Onyx has been named to the 2026-27 Fortune Cyber 60 list. Fortune, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and AWS spotlight the most innovative cybersecurity startups, and we’re honored to join the companies helping shape the future of cybersecurity.

We’re proud to receive this recognition at a time when AI is changing both how enterprises operate and what they need to protect. For Onyx, it marks an exciting milestone in a year of rapid growth, driven by a clear mission to control advanced AI.

Lightspeed evaluated over 300 cybersecurity startups, and Onyx was included in the early-growth-stage category. For us, this recognition reflects both our growth and the tremendous market need for agent security as enterprises give AI greater responsibility.

A year of growth for Onyx

Since emerging from stealth this past March, Onyx has moved quickly to meet enterprise demand for AI visibility and control. In July, we announced a $113 million Series B led by Bessemer Venture Partners, bringing our total funding to $153 million. At that point, revenue had quadrupled in the four months since our public launch.

By July, Onyx was already securing more than 1.1 million AI agents and inspecting more than 66 million AI sessions across our enterprise customers. That scale gives our work a practical urgency: the decisions agents make are becoming part of everyday business operations.

These milestones reflect the responsibility our customers are entrusting to us as they expand AI across their organizations.

AI autonomy is growing faster than security readiness

The CISO survey conducted by Wakefield Research alongside the report captures the challenge facing security leaders:

  • 88% of companies already allow AI to take at least some response actions with no human in the loop.
  • 79% experienced a confirmed or suspected AI-related security incident in the past 12 months.
  • Confidence in the ability of in-house teams to handle AI-specific risk declined year-over-year from 71% to 55%.
  • 85% of CISOs plan to hire or reskill for AI security within the year.

Taken together, these findings point to a growing need for oversight as AI takes on operational responsibility. Enterprises are delegating response actions to AI while building the expertise to manage its risks. Agent security must help close that gap by giving teams visibility into AI behavior and the ability to intervene as agents operate.

Helping enterprises put AI to work

For security leaders, supporting AI adoption means answering practical questions. What AI is running across the business? Which agents can reach sensitive information or change business systems? How can teams enforce company policies as usage grows?

Those questions affect whether an organization can confidently introduce an employee assistant, expand a customer service workflow, or give a coding agent greater responsibility. Security teams need visibility into those deployments and controls they can apply as the technology evolves.

The Onyx Secure AI Control Plane brings discovery, governance, and runtime protection together across enterprise AI. It helps teams understand their AI footprint, address risky configurations and excessive access, and supervise agents as they work. When intervention is needed, Onyx can allow, block, steer, mask, or escalate an action to a human. Alongside these protections, model routing and cost optimization help enterprises manage the economics and performance of AI adoption.

Our goal is to make it easier for organizations to put powerful AI to productive use while retaining oversight of its behavior, access, and impact.

Building on this milestone

The Fortune Cyber 60 recognition is a moment to celebrate the people behind that work. Thank you to our customers for trusting us with their AI programs, our partners and investors for supporting our growth, and the Onyx team for turning an ambitious mission into a platform enterprises can use today.

There is much more ahead. As AI takes on greater responsibility, we’ll keep building the controls that help enterprises move forward with confidence.
